In this role you will be leading the Autopilot team to deliver software across multiple projects and the internal roadmap. Your time will be spilt approximately 50/50 between hands-on software engineering and team leadership. You will focus on collaborating with stakeholders, Technical Leads and other departments to ensure software meets requirements and is delivered on schedule. You will be coordinating and contributing to all aspects of aircraft software design, implementation and testing. Responsibilities Line management of a team of software engineers ranging from Graduates to Principal Engineers. Set goals supporting company objectives and career progression, conduct regular 1-1s, and hold quarterly performance reviews. Task definition and management for your team. Collaboration with stakeholders to define software requirements. Support Project Managers in scoping, defining, and estimating project tasks. Day to day team management including resourcing, holiday, and timesheets. Contribute to software design and implement to cost and schedule. Ensure engineering processes are followed by the software team. Work closely with other Team Leads to align goals and maximise efficiency. Governance of software design documentation and coding standards. Mentoring and coaching of team members. Perform other related duties as required. Health and Safety Demonstrate in daily activities a commitment to health and safety in the workplace by always ensuring tasks are performed in the safest possible manner Report all hazards and incidents that the individual is party to, or observes, in the correct manner. When required or directed, participate in any health and safety training. About You Qualifications An upper second-class (2:1) or above BSc or Master Honours degree in an Engineering or Science subject. Skills and Experience Essential Significant experience as an embedded software engineer on complex systems. Experience of designing, developing and documenting complex software. Knowledge of a variety of programming languages and tools including C. Expert knowledge of real time and embedded software. Mentoring and coaching software engineers. Desirable Extensive knowledge of flight control software such as Ardupilot and Mission Planner. Knowledge of airborne safety related engineering practices such as DO-178C. Background of aeronautics and control systems. Previous line management experience.
