Description

We seek an experienced Test Engineer with advanced automation testing expertise to support VA’s Financial Management System (FMS), Human Capital Management (HCM), or Secretary of VA / Congressional / Legal Affairs (SCLA). This role requires leadership in test automation strategy and implementation across multiple complex systems. You will lead automation initiatives, mentor testing teams, and ensure enterprise-level test automation frameworks support rapid delivery cycles.
In this role, you’ll provide technical leadership for test automation activities, establish automation standards and best practices, and ensure that complex VA systems maintain the highest quality standards through comprehensive automated testing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Test Automation Leadership: Lead test automation initiatives across multiple HCM and SCLA systems, providing technical guidance and establishing automation standards.
  • Advanced Automation Framework Development: Architect and implement sophisticated test automation frameworks that support complex business scenarios, API testing, and system integrations.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Integration: Design and implement automated testing integration within CI/CD pipelines to support DevSecOps practices and continuous delivery
  • Cross-System Automation: To ensure comprehensive coverage, develop automation solutions for end-to-end testing across multiple integrated VA systems.
  • Team Mentorship: Mentor junior test engineers and provide guidance on automation best practices, framework development, and quality assurance methodologies.
  • Performance and Load Testing Automation: Implement automated performance and load testing solutions to ensure systems can handle expected user volumes.
  • Quality Metrics and Reporting: Establish automation metrics, testing dashboards, and reporting mechanisms to provide visibility into test coverage and system quality.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in software testing with emphasis on test automation leadership
  • Advanced expertise in test automation frameworks and tools (Selenium, Cypress, TestComplete, or similar)
  • Strong experience leading automation teams and initiatives
  • Proven track record in developing enterprise-level automation frameworks
  • Experience with API automation testing and service testing
  • Advanced knowledge of CI/CD pipeline integration and DevSecOps practices
  • Strong programming skills in automation scripting languages

Preferred Experience and Certifications

  • Previous experience supporting VA HCM or supply chain systems
  • Advanced ISTQB certifications (Test Manager, Advanced Test Automation Engineer)
  • Experience with cloud-based testing platforms and automation
  • Knowledge of federal HR and supply chain regulations and testing requirements
  • Experience with performance testing automation tools and frameworks
  • Advanced Agile testing and automation certifications

Advanced Technical Skills:

  • Advanced test automation architecture and framework development
  • Enterprise CI/CD pipeline design and automation integration
  • Advanced API testing and microservices testing automation
  • Leadership experience in complex automation environments

Job Type: Contract
Pay: $56.00 - $63.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
