Description

Your tasks

They contribute to ensuring the quality and reliability of our embedded Linux devices. In doing so, they not only test individual software functions, but also consider the behavior of the entire device within its system environment.

Your responsibilities include, in particular:

  • Planning, execution and documentation of software, integration and system tests for embedded Linux devices
  • Development and maintenance of automated tests and test tools with Python
  • Development and enhancement of reproducible test environments
  • Performing manual tests when automation is not practical or not yet available.
  • Analysis of log files, processes, services, system states and communication flows on Linux-based devices
  • Investigation, documentation and tracking of errors
  • Implementation and further development of regression tests
  • Monitoring device behavior during restarts, connection interruptions, configuration changes, and other relevant system states.
  • Close collaboration with software development, product management and other relevant departments.
  • Continuous improvement of our testing processes and test coverage

The focus is on Linux-based devices and their behavior within the overall system. They investigate, for example, whether services start correctly, interfaces are accessible, communication processes function reliably, and the device behaves as expected even in error and exceptional situations.

Our goal is to automate recurring tests as much as makes sense and to narrow down errors in a reproducible way.

Your profile

In short: You enjoy understanding complex Linux-based devices, systematically narrowing down errors, and developing reliable automated tests from manual processes.

Ideally, you should bring the following:

  • Practical experience in development with Python, for example for test automation, scripts or technical tools
  • Safe handling of Linux systems and the command line
  • Experience with software, integration or system testing
  • Interest in understanding the behavior of complex devices and distributed systems as a whole.
  • Experience in analyzing log files, processes, services, and network connections
  • Structured and transparent working methods for test planning, test execution and error analysis
  • Experience with Git
  • Willingness to familiarize oneself with technical communication processes, system states and device-specific processes.
  • Enjoyment of collaborating in an interdisciplinary development team
  • Good English skills; German skills are an advantage.

Experience with the following is helpful, but not absolutely necessary:

  • automated test frameworks such as pytest or Robot Framework
  • Network protocols and tools for network and communication analysis
  • systemd, shell scripts, SSH and typical Linux diagnostic tools
  • Continuous Integration, for example with Jenkins or GitLab CI
  • Container technologies or virtualized test environments
  • Tests of distributed systems or networked devices

They have completed vocational training, a degree or comparable practical experience, for example in the fields of computer science, computer engineering, information technology, software development or test engineering.

It's not important to us that you already master every technology mentioned. What's crucial for us is a good technical understanding, a systematic approach, and the motivation to familiarize yourself with our equipment and test environments.
