Solar Design Engineer

We are looking for an experienced full-time Solar Design Engineer to join our Commercial Division.
Position Summary
The Solar Design Engineer’s primary role is to create plan designs on behalf of Hooked on Solar’s commercial operations team. This position will utilize proposal and design software to properly assess and propose a solar system based on information gathered for residential Solar and Energy Storage System Projects. This position will be a key player in supporting sales and ensuring a properly sized system is designed and approved for installation. The Solar Design Engineer’’s main objective is to create accurate and compelling permit submittal plan sets for our commercial team.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:

  • PV Solar and ESS System installation procedures including Array Layout, electrical information, system sizing and AHJ/Utility requirements.
  • Understand power, Watt, volt-amp, amp, nominal voltages, and be able to go back and forth through conversions and calculations.
  • Algebra and math skills.
  • AutoCAD knowledge and ability. XREF, viewport set-up, working with blocks, text, attributes, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel.
  • General Computer Knowledge, Windows operating system, Windows Explorer, file (folder) structure and use.
  • Good memory retention.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Create, review and revise CAD designs/plan sets
  • Enter project data into the Aurora portal
  • Communicate with the Aurora Design Team regarding project revisions, system changes, clarify project questions and ensure plan sets are accurate.
  • Utilize knowledge of utility, AHJ, and Hooked On Solar’s Policies
  • Responsible for pre-sale inquiries, such as questions regarding Solar & ESS constructability, etc.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements

  • REQUIRED 5+ year of experience in solar energy
  • REQUIRED CAD, engineering, architectural, or construction experience - AT LEAST 5 year of experience. Solar Design knowledge preferred.
  • Worked with Public Works and DSA Projects
  • Must be proficient at multitasking, high attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Discretion and confidentiality
  • Must have outstanding follow-through
