Position Overview
The Solar Labourer will assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on residential, commercial, and industrial sites. Under the guidance of experienced solar technicians and crew leads, you will contribute to every stage of the construction process, from preparing work sites to assembling panels and ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in an outdoor, team-oriented environment and are eager to learn new skills in the rapidly expanding renewable energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist in the layout, assembly, and installation of solar PV panels, racking, and related hardware on rooftops, ground mounts, and other structures.
· Unload, move, and organize solar equipment and materials at job sites.
· Perform basic mechanical and electrical tasks as directed by team leads.
· Prepare work areas by clearing debris, marking layouts, and ensuring surfaces are ready for installation.
· Work safely at heights and on ladders or scaffolding according to site requirements.
· Use hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment as needed.
· Help maintain a clean and organized worksite, adhering to safety and environmental best practices at all times.
· Assist in the trenching and mounting of support structures and cabling.
· Support team members with lifting, positioning, and securing solar panels.
· Report any safety hazards or incidents immediately to supervisors.
· Participate in regular safety briefings and ongoing training sessions.
· Follow written and verbal instructions with attention to detail.
Qualifications & Skills
· High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
· Prior experience in construction, roofing, electrical work, or similar labour-intensive roles is considered an asset but not mandatory.
· Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
· Strong teamwork and communication skills.
· Commitment to workplace safety and willingness to follow safety protocols.
· Punctual, reliable, and proactive attitude.
· Willingness to travel to different job sites as needed.
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
· Basic understanding of hand and power tools.
· Capacity to read and understand simple plans or instructions.
· Ability to work at heights safely.
Working Conditions
· Outdoor environments, including rooftops, open fields, and construction sites.
· Exposure to weather, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
· Physical labour including lifting, bending, digging, climbing, and carrying.
· Noise and vibrations from construction equipment and tools.
· Adherence to strict safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
· Variable hours, with potential for overtime during peak periods.
