QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX Fellow/Associate (England & Wales).
  • Equivalent alternative qualifications may be considered in support of our diversity and inclusion agenda, subject to evidence of relevant experience and competency.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Extensive knowledge of property law and practice, ideally within a local authority or public sector setting.
  • Demonstrable ability to lead complex property transactions with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Skilled in interpreting legal documents, advising on property due diligence, and managing linked transactions.
  • Experience with land acquisitions/disposals, lease extensions, licences, and deeds of variation.
  • Strong grasp of subsidy control as it relates to property matters.
  • Proficiency with legal case management systems and Microsoft Office software.
Responsibilities

WHAT’S INVOLVED WITH THIS ROLE:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Solicitor to join our legal services team, playing a pivotal role in delivering expert legal advice and representation on a wide range of property-related matters. You will be working in a dynamic, client-focused environment, supporting the delivery of key council property transactions and ensuring legal compliance and value for money across all services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide expert legal advice and leadership on a wide range of residential and commercial property transactions.
  • Draft and negotiate legal documents such as leases, licences, deeds, SDLT submissions, and title reports.
  • Advise on property-related due diligence, asset transfers, and land registry requisitions.
  • Handle sensitive and high-value transactions in collaboration with senior legal and client stakeholders.
  • Work closely with internal legal colleagues and instruct external solicitors or barristers where appropriate.
  • Attend council committees, advise Members, and ensure reports and legal implications are properly presented.
  • Maintain accurate legal records and contribute to the development of templates, precedents, and legal know-how.
