DESCRIPTION

Geldards LLP is a leading regional law firm with offices in Cardiff, Derby, Nottingham and London. We are currently looking for a Solicitor to join our growing medical negligence team in our Cardiff office.
The team secures justice and compensation for victims of medical negligence. We specialise in all aspects of medical negligence including birth injuries, misdiagnoses/failures to diagnose cancer, spinal and brain injuries, surgical errors and incorrect treatment and care. The team is Law Society accredited and a member of the Action Against Medical Accidents (AvMA) panel, The Society of Clinical Injury Lawyers and The Spinal Injuries Association. We are ranked highly by Chambers and Legal 500.
You will be assisting senior solicitors with complex cases. You will be supervised by Partners and Senior Associates and be supported by paralegals and legal assistants. You will have opportunity to progress to managing your own caseload and develop your career within the firm. You will be offered training to support your continuous development.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

• The ideal candidate will have between 1-4 PQE in medical negligence claims. However, we invite applications from any lawyers with relevant experience
• A level of knowledge of the Clinical Negligence Protocol and the Procedural Rules and litigation process commensurate with experience
• Ability to handle volume instructions
• Ability to provide an excellent service to clients and have an empathetic and sensitive approach
• Strong academics essential
• Must be able to work as part of a team as well as using own initiative.
• Excellent communication skills
• Must be computer literate
• Good personal organisation skills and ability to adhere to time limits and prioritise work
• Project a professional image at all times

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist senior lawyers on pre litigated and litigated County Court and High Court claims
• Manage small caseload independently
• Liaise with clients
• Liase with counsel/experts
• Approach expert witnesses and draft letters of instruction
• Draft schedules of loss and valuing damages
• Interview clients and witnesses and draft witness statements
• Assist with disclosure
• Draft Court documents
• Make and assess settlements offers
• Attend business development and marketing events
• Contribute to marketing campaigns
• Act in accordance with the firm’s file management and supervision policy
• Comply with the firm’s internal processes on time recording, billing, credit control and compliance
• Any other reasonable responsibilities commensurate with the grade and post

• 35 hour working week - Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
