Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions  Prosecution Officer (Lawyer) Level 1  Temporary, for a period of up to 12 months  $135,205. Ensuring the diversity of our staff reflect the diversity in the broader communities of NSW ensure the perspectives and interests are represented within our organisation.    About the role:    The ODPP seeks solicitors with a strong interest in criminal law for roles throughout NSW.  Our head office is in Sydney, where the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Deputy Directors, the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions and their legal and administrative support staff are based.  We have three western Sydney offices in Parramatta, Penrith and Campbelltown, and six offices in regional NSW in Lismore, Newcastle, Gosford, Wagga Wagga, Dubbo and Wollongong. Solicitors and Crown Prosecutors in our regional offices conduct prosecutions in circuit courts within their region.    As a solicitor you will manage a large and varied criminal law practice, you will also:  Instruct Counsel and other prosecutors in all criminal law jurisdictions.  Assess briefs of evidence and prepare advice about the sufficiency of the evidence and appropriate charges.  Assist in the negotiation of pleas of guilty in appropriate matters.  Undertake less complex advocacy work.    This is a general recruitment, and a talent pool will be created to fill ongoing and temporary vacancies that may arise in the next 18 months in both regional and metropolitan offices.     About you:    Essential:  Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who is respected and recognised by your community as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. As part of the application process, confirmation of Aboriginality and/or a letter from an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation from the community you are from will be required.    Hold a degree or diploma in law and be admitted, or eligible for admission, as an Australian legal practitioner by 31 March 2026.  Hold a Practising Certificate issued by the Law Society of NSW prior to commencing.    Skills and attributes:  Demonstrated ability to undertake less complex advocacy work.  Active listening skills, ability to explain complex concepts and arguments to individuals and groups, and capacity to tailor communication to different audiences.  Strong written communication skills across a range of styles and formats.  Sound decision-making, problem solving, time management and organisational skills.    Other requirements:  If interested in regional offices, a current driver’s licence is required.     The ODPP is committed to developing both metropolitan and regional talent.
