The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

In this role, you will be an integral and valued member of a highly skilled and high-performing Supreme Court Bail team within the Criminal Law Practice. The Supreme Court Bail Coordinator role delivers culturally appropriate legal advice and representation in criminal matters, including outreach and early intervention. It also involves liaising with stakeholders to ensure effective case management and maintaining strong inter-agency relationships. You will:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Supreme Court Bail Practice, including staff supervision, rostering, and case allocation.
  • Prepare and run complex Supreme Court bail applications and associated court documentation.
  • Mentor and support junior solicitors, including advocacy development, training, and CPD planning.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders to ensure effective and professional conduct of bail matters.
  • Maintain strong inter-agency and intra-office relationships, ensuring culturally appropriate client representation.
  • Stay updated on legal developments, ensure ethical practice, and contribute to law reform and policy discussions.
