What You'll Be Doing Join a forward-thinking team in the Solid Waste Management Division, where environmental protection meets innovation. We manage Wake County’s South Wake Landfill, landfill gas and leachate systems, closed landfill monitoring and a transfer station. Our work also includes recycling programs, convenience centers and public outreach and education initiatives. This position is part of our Disposal group, reporting to the Solid Waste Program Manager and working closely with other Solid Waste Facilities Managers to oversee landfill gas, leachate, environmental compliance and monthly monitoring for both active and closed landfill facilities. About Our Team Wake County’s Solid Waste Management team may be a small team of 18 full-time team members, but we make a big impact. Managing a $30+ million annual budget, we keep the county’s landfills, transfer stations, convenience centers and recycling facilities running seamlessly through smart contract management. We also deliver about three major capital projects each year, partnering closely with Facilities Design & Construction to improve critical infrastructure. With most of our team members bringing 10+ years of experience, we’re a tight-knit, collaborative group that blends professionalism with a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie. The Basics (Required Education and Experience) Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering or related field Three years of experience in solid waste management Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record Equivalent education and experience are accepted Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume.
