Contract: Hourly rate contract, Initial 6-month contract with possible extension

REQUIREMENTS

  • 8+ years working experience in solution architecture, security, risk management, assurance management, designing, building and running technology services in alignment with security best practice.
  • Proven experience as a Solution Architect, preferably in data-intensive environmental projects and AWS cloud environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and governance of business, information system and infrastructure architectures including security control design and estimating (incl, effort, duration and costs) in complex environments.
  • Extensive experience in assessing, designing, evaluating and implementing IT systems architecture to support business strategy with an enterprise-wide focus across a wide variety of technologies using agile delivery methods.
  • Experience collaborating with vendors, engineering, program/project management, IT development, and business teams to provide technical solutions that ensure delivered systems align with technology architecture strategies while upholding principles of software integrity.
  • Demonstrated experience in system security threat analysis and risk assessments, policy and standards development, architecture and design.
  • Ideally experience with architecture and security frameworks such as ISM, NIST CSF, ISO27001/2, ISO31000, TOGAF etc.
Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

Our client is an established state government agency. They are seeking a Solution Architect with demonstrated AWS cloud experience. The Cloud Solution Architect will play a critical role in shaping the technical design and architecture of a large and complex data-driven platform. They will collaborate closely with the program team, including the Technical Analyst and ICT, to provide architectural guidance, align technical solutions with business needs, and ensure the program’s deliverables meet both current and future requirements.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a comprehensive solution architecture for the Data platform, including data ingestion, storage, curation, taxonomy management, and access layers.
  • Define high-level system components and their interactions, ensuring alignment with program goals.
  • Recommend technology stacks, tools, and frameworks suitable for the program’s requirements.
  • Work closely with the Technical Analyst to provide inputs into the Software Requirements Specification.
  • Provide guidance on cloud-based solutions (AWS) and infrastructure for cost efficiency and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with the vendors to understand SaaS product’s capabilities, ensuring it aligns with the program’s requirements and fits within the overall solution architecture.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Identify and plan integrations with existing systems, and other national platforms. Ensure interoperability with external systems through APIs and data standards.
  • Design scalable and modular architecture to accommodate future growth and enhancements.
  • Assess architectural risks, particularly in adopting new or immature technologies, and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Produce architectural diagrams, technical specifications, and supporting documentation to guide implementation.
  • Document decisions and trade-offs to provide a clear rationale for the proposed solution.
