JOB SUMMARY

The Public Sector Solutions Architect plays an integral role in developing custom solutions for Comcast Business’ largest and most complex State and Local opportunities and develops strategies to expand our opportunities and wins. The position focuses on delivering cutting-edge solutions such as intelligent networking, cybersecurity technologies, and next-gen network architecture. These solutions include SD-WAN, Unified Threat Management (UTM), Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR), Managed Detection & Response (MDR), DDoS Mitigation Services, Unified Communications, Wireless LAN, and other emerging technologies. The Solutions Architect 5 drives value-based solutions development, strategic sales initiatives, and revenue growth by collaborating with internal stakeholders such as account teams, product teams, and operations. This role is essential to ensuring seamless customer experiences. The Public Sector Solutions Architect will work with State and Local Governments as well as Educational Customers (SLED) and have a working knowledge of the unique requirements associated with these entities. The candidate should also understand the complexities of working with E-Rate in this environment as well. The candidate will work to design and develop tailored solutions and support the successful implementation and ongoing service management of these solutions. This position requires a deep understanding of security, networking, and technology regarding the complexities in supporting the needs of SLED and E-Rate customers. Role will be virtually based in either Eastern PA, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, or Northern VA with up to 25% travel.

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Pre-sales Technical Expertise: Proven experience in presales technical roles, specifically with government, midmarket and enterprise customers, with deep knowledge of security, networking, and cloud solutions.
  • Solution Architecture: Expertise in designing and implementing complex IT solutions, with a focus on SD-WAN, UTM, EDR, MDR, VoIP, WiFi, and related technologies.
  • Strategic Selling & Deal Development: Ability to drive deal strategy and value-based selling, particularly in complex environments.
  • Technical Certifications & Technology: Relevant experience and certifications are highly preferred, including but not limited to CCDP, CCNP, CCIE, CISSP, Cisco / Cisco Meraki, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Juniper and Versa. Certifications in government-specific security frameworks (e.g., CMMC, FISMA, FedRAMP) are a plus.
  • Industry Experience: 10+ years of experience working in solution architecture, IT consulting, or pre-sales engineering, with substantial experience supporting midmarket and enterprise customers.
  • Networking and Security: Extensive hands-on experience with WAN/LAN, routing, security (firewalls, intrusion detection, etc.), SD-WAN, and advanced security technologies such as UTM, EDR, MDR, and DDoS mitigation.
  • Project Management: Strong project management and organizational skills, including experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions in line with strict deadlines.
  • Experience: Networking WAN/LAN, Routing, Security, SD-WAN, UTM, EDR, MDR
  • Expertise: Cloud technologies and architectures (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and how they apply complex midmarket and enterprise environments.
  • Communication: Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.

Responsibilities
  • SLED & E-Rate RFP Technical Solutions Development: Serve as the technical lead in developing compliant, innovative, and cost-effective network and technology solutions for State, Local, Education (SLED) and E-Rate RFP opportunities. Responsibilities include analyzing bid specifications and program requirements, designing architectures that meet or exceed stated objectives, and ensuring all proposed solutions align with E-Rate eligibility guidelines, SLED procurement rules, and organizational standards. Act as the subject matter expert to ensure proposed designs are technically sound, program-compliant, and competitively positioned for award.
  • Regulatory & Standards-Focused Solution Design for SLED & E-Rate: Maintain expert-level understanding of regulatory, privacy, and cybersecurity standards critical to State, Local, Education (SLED) and E-Rate initiatives—including FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards), HIPAA, FERPA, and the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) cybersecurity framework. Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure solutions are both E-Rate eligible and aligned with procurement rules, privacy safeguards, and industry best practices.
  • Pre-Sales & Strategic Consulting: Support sales teams by engaging with midmarket and enterprise clients to understand their business requirements, design solutions that align with strategic objectives, and position advanced technologies such as SD-WAN, UTM, EDR, MDR, DDoS Mitigation, Unified Communications (UC), Wireless LAN, and other industry-leading technologies.
  • Design and Architect Solutions: Design secure, scalable, and compliant solutions that meet the technical, regulatory, and budgetary requirements of midmarket and enterprise customers. Solutions should address complex networking and security challenges.
  • Client Engagement: Act as a trusted advisor to clients, advising on best practices in network architecture, security, and technology innovation. Maintain a thorough understanding of clients’ needs and provide tailored recommendations that ensure alignment with their long-term goals.
  • Deal Strategy & Technical Leadership: Lead technical discussions and design sessions, work closely with sales leadership to develop deal strategies, and drive solution adoption. Provide mentorship and guidance to sales engineers, junior architects, and other team members.
  • Pre-Sales Support & Proposal Development: Collaborate with account teams to develop competitive proposals, including technical and architectural solutions that align with customer needs and industry best practices. Ensure alignment with relevant procurement and contracting processes for midmarket and enterprise customers.
  • Implementation & Operational Support: Oversee the testing, deployment, and activation phases, providing ongoing technical leadership to ensure the successful turn-up of solutions. Engage in the development of test plans, configuration requirements, and ensure that customer network and security needs are met.
  • Continuous Learning & Innovation: Stay informed on the latest advancements in networking, security, and cloud technologies. Upskill sales teams and partners on emerging technologies to enhance the solutions portfolio.
