This position is responsible for creating bids, scoping projects, and defining the timescales, costs, and resources required to produce accurate and complete designs. While project execution is owned by the delivery teams, the Solutions Architect provides design guidance and support throughout implementation to help ensure a smooth and successful outcome. Strong communication, leadership, organizational abilities, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with a solid understanding of IT infrastructure, low-voltage systems, and construction practices. This position reports directly to the Director of NSI Services and does not have any direct reports. This position operates within the NSI (Network Solutions Integration) team and focuses on designing solutions across multiple technology disciplines. Typical systems include low-voltage structured cabling, security cameras, access control, point-to-point wireless backhauls, sensors, intrusion detection systems, and relay-based control designs. Position Responsibilities: Pre-Sales & Requirements Gathering Meet with customers and internal stakeholders to understand business goals, technical requirements, and project constraints. Conduct site walks, assessments, and discovery sessions to gather the information needed for accurate scoping and solution design. Translate customer needs into clear technical requirements, ensuring alignment with budget, timeline, and operational expectations. Solution Design & Scoping Develop complete and accurate project scopes, bids, and proposals, including timelines, resource requirements, costs, and deliverables. Design IT infrastructure, low-voltage, and integrated systems (e.g., networking, access control, surveillance, structured cabling) to meet defined requirements. Evaluate product options, compatibility, and construction impacts to create solutions that are practical, scalable, and cost-effective. Interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and related documents to ensure designs align with site conditions. Maintain knowledge of industry standards, codes, and best practices to ensure designs are compliant and robust. Collaboration & Internal Communication Work closely with sales, project management, engineering, and field teams to communicate design intent and project expectations. Provide clarification, technical documentation, and design guidance during implementation when questions arise. Assist teams in overcoming design-related obstacles without assuming responsibility for execution of the project. Quality & Support During Implementation Participate in project kickoffs to ensure accurate handoff of design and scope to delivery teams. Review change requests, field conditions, and material substitutions to ensure alignment with the design. Provide remote or on-site support when design clarification is required to keep projects moving smoothly. Professional Development & Other Duties Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and product updates through training and continuing education. Perform other solution-design or pre-sales-related responsibilities as assigned. Requirements: Proven experience in IT infrastructure, low-voltage systems, construction environments, or related technical fields. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic and fast-moving environment. Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to research and evaluate options to identify effective solutions. Proficiency with computer tools, including spreadsheets, CRM systems, documentation platforms, and related applications. Ability to work independently, stay self-directed, and follow through on tasks to completion. Clear and effective communication skills for interacting with customers, internal teams, and project stakeholders. Ability to travel to customer sites as needed. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, bend, squat, kneel, and perform fine motor tasks when required for site assessments or design validation. Comfort working at heights when necessary for site evaluations (up to 150 feet). High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree, technical certifications, or equivalent experience in a relevant field preferred. Minimum of 2+ years' experience in IT infrastructure, low voltage, construction, or a comparable technical discipline.
