POSITION OVERVIEW

The Solutions Engineer is a client-facing technical expert who works closely with the sales team to understand customer requirements and design tailored IT solutions. This role involves conducting technical assessments, preparing documentation, and delivering solution presentations that clearly articulate business value. The Solutions Engineer is expected to bridge the gap between sales strategy and technical execution while ensuring proposed solutions align with Advantage’s best practices and service standards.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience in a pre-sales, solutions engineering, or systems engineering role within IT services or an MSP.
  • Strong technical knowledge across Microsoft 365, networking (LAN/WAN, firewalls, switches, APs), virtualization, and cloud platforms. Extreme, Fortinet, Meraki, VMware, Dell, HPE, Verkada
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, client-focused value propositions.
  • Proficiency with documentation and diagramming tools (Visio, Lucidchart, or similar).
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Certifications in relevant areas (Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, Fortinet, etc.) are preferred.
  • Associate’s degree or higher related to Computer Science.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the IT field.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
  • Reliable transportation.

Responsibilities
  • Sales & Client Collaboration
  • Partner with the sales team to gather customer requirements and design solutions that address business and technical needs.
  • Participate in customer meetings as the technical subject matter expert, building trust and credibility.
  • Technical Discovery & Assessments
  • Perform onsite and remote surveys of customer environments, including servers, storage arrays, workstations, networking equipment, and cloud systems.
  • Validate infrastructure and document current environments to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Solution Design & Documentation
  • Work with partners like SESCO, SYNNEX, Ingram and others.
  • Create Bills of Materials (BoM) and Scopes of Work (SoW) to support sales quoting and proposals.
  • Develop technical drawings and documentation to communicate solution design.
  • Ensure designs follow security, scalability, and performance best practices.
  • Presentation & Communication
  • Deliver technical presentations, demonstrations, and workshops to customers.
  • Provide technical expertise during proposal development and client discussions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, helping clients understand the business value of recommended solutions.
  • Continuous Learning & Knowledge Sharing
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, vendor technologies, and Advantage service offerings.
  • Maintain relevant technical certifications.
  • Share insights with peers and contribute to the ongoing improvement of Advantage’s technical sales process.
