The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity to join Vocus as a Solutions Engineer ​​in Melbourne, this role will be responsible for Detailed Service Design & Provisioning solutions for Vocus Communication’s client base.

These solutions are delivered using our established provisioning framework and aligned with our key technology partners and business units. You will interact with key customer stakeholders, vendors, internal service delivery and project management to successfully implement and/or transition these solutions in line with agreed scope and timeframes.

  • Please note that Australian Citizenship is mandatory as part of the criteria for this role, you will need to have the ability to obtain NV1 Security clearance or currently hold a NV1 clearance (or the ability to re-instate).

What you’ll be doing day-to-day

As the Solutions Engineer your role responsibilities will include;

  • Interpret existing presales technical work through liaison with key project stakeholders
  • Analyse and define customer requirements by working with the customer’s technical team during design phase as required.
  • Design, build, test and deliver appropriate solutions on Vocus network in line with relevant Engineering Standards and expected delivery timeframes.
  • Assist with delivery scheduling, reporting, and tracking systems.
  • Manage issues, risks, escalations, changes and variations in line with Solutions engineering framework documents
  • Manage, verify and control stock/inventory
  • Manage the overall relationship with all relevant parties to the benefit of orders/projects under your ownership, and coordinate contractors and vendors as required.
  • Assist Engineering team with building and deploying Vocus edge-network devices.
  • Work towards industry and vendor accreditations as per individual development objectives
  • Create professional level documentation as required including:
  • Update NMS Systems, Provisioning Systems & Inventory Systems.
  • Handover documents
  • Test documents
  • Wiki updates
  • Incident Reports
  • Contribute to proposals, tenders and consulting reports

What you’ll bring to this role

  • 3-5 years minimum practical experience in the delivery of multi-site rollouts of infrastructure solutions
  • Have proven practical experience using Cisco, Brocade, ADVA, Nokia, Fortinet equipment
  • Experience with service provider technical protocols at every layer of the OSI model (eg L2TP, L2VPN, BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, DNS, MPLS, RADIUS)
  • Understanding of both physical and logical network design elements including transmission and fibre layers.
  • Ability to perform design on WDM networks
  • Understanding of optical fibre telecommunications network structure and architectures.
  • Understanding of capabilities of all network equipment including fibre/facilities/transmission systems and Ethernet switching systems.
  • Excellent planning, reporting and documentation skills
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and business relationship building skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer relationship skills
  • Ability to take ownership of role and work autonomously
  • Ability to prioritise, organise and manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Ability to work productively and professionally with team members, external contractors and customers
  • Strong MS Office Skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio and Project (or equivalents)
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Telecommunications Engineering -Highly Desirable
  • CCNA required, CCNP - desirable (or equivalent)
  • 3 Years relevant industry experience required.
