Position Overview: We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Sommelier to join our passionate team under the guidance of our Wine Director. The ideal candidate will assist in managing our prestigious wine list, maintaining an impeccable wine cellar, and enhancing guest experiences through expert recommendations and exceptional service.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous sommelier experience in fine dining or upscale establishments.
  • Formal wine education/certification (e.g., CMS, WSET) strongly preferred.
  • Deep appreciation for and knowledge of Greek wines as well as global wine regions.
  • Passionate about biodynamic, organic, and sustainably produced wines.
  • Exceptional guest service skills with a genuine desire to create memorable wine experiences.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to educate and inspire both guests and fellow staff members.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Wine Director to manage wine inventory, cellar organization, and wine list maintenance.
  • Engage guests throughout the evening, providing thoughtful and personalized wine recommendations to elevate their dining experience.
  • Oversee and conduct ongoing staff training related to wine service, proper handling of glassware, decanters, and wine presentation.
  • Coordinate, promote, and execute monthly wine tastings, educational events, and wine sales initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and growth of The Black Olive Wine Club, engaging members through curated offerings and exceptional service.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of our wine portfolio, emphasizing biodynamic, organic, sustainable, and small-producer wines, with a special focus on exceptional wines from Greece.
  • Collaborate closely with the culinary team to ensure harmonious food and wine pairings.
  • Uphold service standards to reflect our reputation as one of America’s top wine destinations.
