JOB DESCRIPTION

Join our Team at Queen’s Hospitality Services as a Sous Chef (Lead Cook). We are hiring for full time roles. Queen’s University is home to food outlets operated by Aramark that serve the university community throughout the school year. Aramark Canada is a leading supplier of hospitality services with career opportunities in major sectors, across Canada.
The Sous Chef’s main role will be supervisory with a focus on training. The successful candidate will be the leader of the culinary team and will delegate duites as required to the front-line staff who are preparing and serving meals to the guests on campus in our dining locations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-2 years experience as Sous Chef or other culinary leadership role
  • A passion for culinary experiences and a commitment to teamwork and fun.
  • A commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging experience for your team members and guests.
  • A willingness to learn and an openness to feedback, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule which includes, days, evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision required
  • Proven knowledge of the basic principles of food preparation, various cooking methods, and food safety regulations such as proper food handling, sanitation, and storage
  • Food safety certification required
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
    This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Minimum 1-2 years experience

Responsibilities
  • Schedules and assigns daily work activities to staff and supervises the completion of tasks.
  • Trains and guides staff on job duties, standard food safety and sanitation procedures, cooking methods, etc.
  • Cooks and prepares food following production guidelines and standardized recipes
  • Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment
  • Provides services that are above and beyond for customer satisfaction and retention
  • Manages day-to-day operations, ensuring the quality, standards and meeting the expectations of the customers on a daily basis.
  • Empowers employees to provide excellent customer service.
  • Safely uses all food utensils including knives and other industrial kitchen equipment
  • Properly stores food by following food safety policies and procedures
  • Maintains excellent customer service with a positive attitude towards guests, customers, clients, and co-workers
  • Follows Aramark safety policies and procedures including food safety and sanitation
  • Ensures security of company assets
  • Leads by example and creates a postive team environment
