Surround yourself with people who care about making a difference – come join us! We have an exciting opportunity for a Full-time, Sous Chef to join the Dining & Nutrition Services department. As a member of Food Services management staff, Sous Chef works in conjunction with the Executive Chef. Assumes supervisory responsibilities of the Executive Chef in his/her absence. Assists the Executive Chef in training and development of other staff. Assists with catering of VIP Functions and staff dining when necessary. Responsible for the preparation of foods for patient's breakfast and noon time meals according to department standards. Responsible for maintaining high standards of quality food production, sanitation, and portion control using standardized recipes. Responsible for using appropriate quantities of food needed to meet menu requirements. Utilizes pre-preparation and batch cooking techniques. Demonstrates an understanding of, and embraces, the mission statement of Christian Health. Competencies: Provides training and development of other production personnel. Cooks a variety of foods following standardized recipes and methods of preparation. Follows menus provided making changes with the consent of the Executive Chef. Prepares the breakfast and noon meal. Schedules food preparation so that all items are prepared in small batches continuously throughout the serving period. Requisitions food and supplies for daily needs. Estimates food requirements and controls serving portions eliminating waste and leftovers. Supervises hot/cold production personnel. Ensures sanitation of all food service equipment as it relates to: Food temperatures; Proper cooking and cooling techniques; Cutting board usage; Cleanliness of cooking conditions. Assumes Executive Chef's supervisory responsibility on his/her scheduled days off and in his/her absence. Functions as Food Service Supervisor, assuming for full responsibility of this position, as need requires. Assists with catering for VIP functions and employee dining as necessary. Schedule: 9am-5pm (hours may vary), Monday- Friday and Every other weekend. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Culinary Arts degree required. Qualifications: 3-5 years experience preparing meals as a sous chef or in a supervisory role. Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities ensuring optimal quality at point of service.
