Job Title: Sous Chef

Job Summary:
El Jefe’s Grill is seeking a skilled and passionate Grill Chef to lead the preparation and execution of all grilled items with precision, consistency, and speed. As the fire behind the flavor, the Grill Chef is central to delivering the bold, smoky, and crave-worthy dishes our guests expect. This position demands a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grill Station Execution:

Prepare all grilled menu items to exact standards, including chicken, carne asada, vegetables, and other proteins.

  • Quality Control:

Monitor grill temperatures, cook times, and food safety protocols to ensure every order is cooked to perfection.

  • Prep & Portioning:

Assist with daily prep including marinating proteins, cutting portions, and managing par levels to reduce waste.

  • Speed & Accuracy:

Maintain a steady pace during service while ensuring orders are consistent and on time.

  • Team Collaboration:

Communicate effectively with the line, expo, and kitchen management to keep tickets flowing and solve problems as they arise.

  • Cleanliness & Maintenance:

Maintain a clean grill station at all times, clean and season grills as needed, and report any equipment issues.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1–2 years experience on the grill in a commercial kitchen
  • Ability to handle high-volume service while maintaining quality and consistency
  • Knowledge of safe food handling practices (ServSafe Certification is a plus)
  • Strong communication and multitasking skills
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to excellence
