Maxwell Alley is now open in the heart of downtown Jersey City, and we’re building something special. Our contemporary American restaurant celebrates seasonally driven cooking, locally sourced ingredients, and a kitchen rooted in house-made excellence, including pastas, breads, cheeses, ferments, and more.
We’re currently expanding our back-of-house team and are hiring a passionate chef and leader to help lead our kitchen. If you’re excited by the energy of a new kitchen and want to be part of a team that values learning, innovation, and collaboration, we want to meet you.
The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, passionate about new and innovative cooking concepts, and eager to learn. We are looking for someone to work side by side with the head chef to create an exciting and cutting edge menu, while fostering a positive work environment and running smooth, efficient services.

Responsibilities will include

  • Assisting the head chef with menu creation, development, and execution
  • Helping to train a full kitchen staff and put new systems in place
  • Prepping and working a busy station, and/or expediting service
  • Managing the kitchen team in a calm and professional manner,
  • Ensuring upmost quality, cleanliness, and food safety guidelines throughout the kitchen
  • Oversee day to day operations, including prep work, smooth running of service, inventory, and ordering
  • Working cohesively with front of house and management to maximize efficiency and positive guest experiences

You should be very comfortable in a busy, high end restaurant environment and with fundamental cooking skills. Experience with handmade pastas and basic butchering skills is preferred. Management/ sous chef experience is required
