SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Create and prepare new and innovative meals appropriate for children ages 6 months – 6 years
  • Able to take and follow directions from Kitchen Manager and administrative staff
  • Knowledge of cooking and children’s dietary health
  • Able to interact fully with the children and teachers

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Two years experience in a commercial cooking environment preferred
  • Education or training in kitchen management and cooking techniques
Responsibilities

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no direct reports, but should be able to oversee the work of the Dishwashers and other temporary kitchen support staff when the Kitchen Manager is unavailable.

ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create, prepare and cook meals according to guidelines established by:
  • Missouri Eat Smart
  • Let’s Move
  • ServSafe
  • CACFP – Child and Adult Care Food Program
  • Create, prepare and cook meals for special events, as requested
  • Operate and maintain all kitchen equipment including, but not limited to: slicers, ovens, broilers, food processors and dishwashing machinery; immediately alerts Kitchen Manager to problems and concerns
  • May assist in preparation of weekly menus
  • Helps the Kitchen Manager in tracking inventories and determining food and supply needs including quantities
  • May place delivered food orders or make trips to grocery store and other retailers, as requested
  • Maintains high standards of sanitation, safety, and food service techniques in accordance with licensing standards, health department requirements and best practice
