EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Post graduate degree in healthcare, business administration, organizational design, or project management (master’s degree preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • in health care/program management.
  • Knowledge of the BC healthcare system and experience working in a primary healthcare setting or experience working with physicians and/or allied health care providers preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work respectfully, knowledgeably, and effectively with patient partners and First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples, adapting to cultural uniqueness to create a sense of safety for all. Knowledge in culturally informed care.
  • Knowledge in trauma-informed care.
  • Knowledge of health-related issues affecting Indigenous Peoples. Knowledge of DEI principles and practices.
  • Strong project management, program development and strategic and operational planning skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in health system improvement and change management.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills, with strong attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of medical, clinical, and administrative professionals.
  • Ability to multi-task and balance priorities within tight timelines. Understanding of local, regional, and provincial Primary Care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a Matrix management structure.
  • Capacity to learn from other leaders and Elders, modelling the vision and encouraging others to commit to and champion the vision - inspires others into new ways of working together to provide excellent primary care.
  • Experience in community development will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly in Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Responsibilities

ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the PCN Director, and under the guidance of the South Island First Nations Communities, the Indigenous PCN Manager will work closely with the PCN Team, community service organizations and other Indigenous service organizations involved in primary care in South Island.
The Indigenous PCN Manager will be responsible for providing an Indigenous and Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) lens on all aspects of planning, organizing and change management activities to support the implementation of the South Island PCN.
The role will include engaging with partner organizations to achieve the shared goal of improving health outcomes for Indigenous Peoples and other underserved populations.
The Indigenous PCN Manager will foster and implement an Indigenous Advisory and also oversees the implementation of approved PCN projects and initiatives in collaboration with South Island First Nations communities, Island Health staff, Patient Medical Home (PMH) programs/services, primary care providers (including Fee for Service Physicians), and community agencies/organizations. The Manager will oversee the work of Indigenous Wellness and cultural safety lead staff and/or contracts.
