JOB DESCRIPTION

The UK Space Agency Technology team covers a wide remit of national and international space technology priorities. This includes working with the European Space Agency and their technology development funding streams. Working across the UK Space Agency on delivering its technology ambitions.
This role sits within the Technology Team reporting to the Industrial Policy Lead and is part of the UK Space Agency Investment Directorate, which supports the development of national and international programmes and missions by creating the best technologies and sub-systems for future implementation.
The National Space Propulsion Test Facility in the Westcott Space Cluster, Buckinghamshire, is the only facility of its kind in the UK and one of only four in the world. Opened in June 2022, it allows companies and academics to test state-of-the-art propulsion engines used to move small satellites in space at a more affordable rate than having to go abroad.
The facility supports the testing of new, more sustainable propellants and is a critical component of the UK space sector growth strategy, driving innovation and development in propulsion technology and supporting the commercial telecommunications satellite market.
General Support Technology Programme (GSTP) is ESA’s flagship technology support and development programme, to which the UK Space Agency committed €83m at the last European Space Agency (ESA) Council of Ministers Meeting in November 2022. The GSTP supports a variety of different projects, including technology development projects.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Commercial Contract Management - Manage the contractual elements for the UK Space Agency responsibilities for the ownership of the UK Space Agency singular and only facility.
  • Stakeholder engagement - Engaging with all stakeholders and management of all contracts to successfully run the facility for the propulsion community to innovate orbit raising technology for both for commercial and science UK based advantages.
  • Project Management - Supporting the GSTP Programme Team with the management, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of key technologies developed in the programme that underpin the success of delivering the National Space Strategy.
  • Communications - Establish lines of communication for the current and new leading-edge technologies with the UK Space Agency Comms team, promoting successful technology developments including building UK capabilities.
  • Willing to travel both nationally and internationall
