JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for processing new and reusable medical supplies and instruments to include cleaning, disinfecting, decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization and inspection. Performs routine and specialized functions relating to surgical instrumentation and orthopedic implants. Maintains effective inventory management relating to case cart pick line and sterile processing stock supplies. Works effectively and cooperatively within the workplace. EDUCATION

High School diploma or GED required.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

Minimum one (1) year related healthcare experience preferred. Previous Operating Room experience preferred.

OTHER SKILLS

Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications to perform work. Well-developed problem solving and analytical skills required. Must be able to effectively prioritize workload amongst frequent interruptions with competing priorities. Knowledge of sterile processing technique and equipment utilized. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Ability to coordinate work schedule with requirements of position (may include overtime and weekend work).

Responsibilities

Collect, clean, sterilize, prepare and pick up/deliver equipment, surgical instruments and supplies in a timely manner per established protocol and department expectations. Maintain ability to operate required equipment in accordance with manufacturer instruction and established procedure. Maintain knowledge of asepsis, proper decontamination and use of personal protective equipment in decontamination area. Assist in maintaining department inventories per established procedure. Maintain knowledge of Sterilization criteria and principles. Maintain Sterile Processing and OR equipment. Complete Engineering, Information Services, and Biomed work order requests in an accurate and timely manner. Prepare case cart, equipment setup, and supplies needed for procedure in accordance with established guidelines. Pick supplies per established procedure. Perform validation testing on sterilization equipment. Sterilize instrumentation for immediate use during procedures, per SRH policy. Clean and prepare OR suites in a timely manner as per established policy. Ensure accurate record-keeping and maintenance of sterilization logs in accordance with regulatory standards and SRH policies and procedures. Provide needed assistance to Operating Rooms as needed. Maintain ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook) and department specific software applications to perform work. Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace. Mandatory call rotation required. Actively contribute to the achievement of Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement activities. Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner. Maintain current licensure and/or certification as required. Attend and actively participate in all department, team and/or committee meetings and huddles. Comply with all Skagit Regional Health, department and location specific policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.
