Description SPD Technician / SPD Certified Surgical Technician Department: Sterile Processing Department Job Type: Full-time Hours: 72 hours, bi-weekly Shift: 2nd Includes: Requires on call weekend & holiday rotation ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Job Description: Fulton County Health Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced SPD Technician / SPD Certified Surgical Technician to join our Sterile Processing Department. This full-time position involves performing critical tasks to prevent the spread of infection by supervising and providing properly cleaned, inspected, and processed equipment for facility use. The role requires collaboration with the LPN Shift Supervisor, SPD Technicians, and all departments to deliver efficient and timely service. Key Responsibilities: Disassemble, clean, assemble, and prepare surgical instrumentation and equipment for sterilization. Supervise and ensure that all equipment is properly cleaned, inspected, and processed. Track inventory, review, record, and recover charges through the facility’s computer system. Record information for infection control and participate in performance improvement activities. Handle SPD responsibilities of the morgue as needed. May be asked to supervise the department on a shift-to-shift basis, consulting with the LPN Shift Supervisor or SPD Department Manager as needed. Process sterilizer biological indicators and interpret results. Maintain strong knowledge of infection control and sterile reprocessing practices. Lead the team in the absence of the shift supervisor. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Requirements High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience in an acute care hospital or surgery center, Sterile Processing, Central Service, or Surgery Department preferred. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) preferred, but willing to train. CST must be a graduate from an accredited school with current certification through NBSTSA. CRCST must be certified through HSPA or CBSPD or must successfully complete Sterile Processing Technician course after 1 year of service. Must continue to maintain competency with continuing education courses. Preference given to individuals experienced and competent in robotic, orthopedic, and general surgical instrument cleaning & reprocessing procedures. Must operate Sterrad sterilizer and biologicals independently. Ability to work closely and communicate well with the department manager, shift supervisor, and surgery department. Strong working knowledge of inventory practices within Meditech is expected. Position requires standing 90% of the shift, lifting up to 50 lbs, and pushing or pulling up to 150 lbs. Requires exceptional vision for intricate instrument inspection, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
