POSITION IS PART-TIME WITH POTENTIAL TO BECOME FULL-TIME

Gateway Academy is an accredited High School and residential treatment center for boys grades 9-12. Our mission is to provide an encouraging and challenging academic environment where students develop into confident communicators who think critically and become independent, life-long learners. We do this through an individualized balance of therapy, college preparatory academics, and recreational activities. We have approximately 40 students, and our average class size is 4-6 students. The Special Education Coordinator reports directly to the Academic Director and is responsible for overseeing services for IEP students by providing classroom observation and administrative support. The Special Education Coordinator will direct and monitor accommodations and student resources in accordance with their home district IEP or 504 plans. The Special Education Coordinator will work closely with teachers and clinicians regarding the special education needs of students, and they will communicate that information to the IEP team members. The primary role of the Special Education Coordinator is to ensure compliance with all regulations governing school district contracts and IEP eligibility. Gateway Academy is certified as a non-public provider by Illinois, California, Utah, and Washington.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (4 years) in education, special education or related field. Special Education certification, with experience overseeing IEP meetings, accommodations coordination, and school district collaboration is required. Two years of experience in direct classroom service preferred. Applicants must be able to pass a criminal background check

Responsibilities
  • Manage and track school district contracts, including coordinating with Admissions and district referrals, tracking placement documentation, managing pre-contract logistics, and communicating throughout the placement process.
  • Coordinate with the home district, Gateway team, and parents, to support the IEP eligibility and district funding processes. Gather and disseminate information and district expectations to the team.
  • Support the transition of students by coordinating with other schools and districts regarding student needs, accommodations, IEPs, 504 plans, etc.
  • Participate in all IEP meetings regarding student progress, accommodations, and/or eligibility.
  • Collaborate with teachers and clinicians to ensure proper documentation of student admission and progress, including: alignment of IEP goals with the master treatment plan, progress reports, behavioral intervention plans (BIPs), transition, incident/emergency reports, credential list, plans, and discharge documentation.
  • Ensure student access to special education services and classroom observation, including district requirements in each state mandating access to a certified special education teacher.
  • Assist teachers and instructional aides with adapting lessons to accommodate varying ability levels of students and special education needs.
  • Coordinate and plan school district site visits including: certification visits, school psychologist and other district testing specialists.
  • Participate in State Board of Education Special Education Renewal, and other state non-public school lists.
  • Attend faculty, clinical, and professional development meetings and parent weekend conferences as needed
