Description Title: Special Education Teacher FLSA Status: Exempt Employment Type: Full time, Salary Reports to: Head of School JOB DESCRIPTION Summary: The Special Education Teacher plans and administers the instructional program and classroom operation in compliance with guidelines and regulations determined by the Administration, Board of Directors, and state and federal agencies. Essential Functions: Provides specialized instruction based upon Individual Learning Plan goals and individual needs. Creates and maintains an individualized learning plan for each student in her classroom in collaboration with teachers and therapists to target and document progress on specific learning goals tailored to each student. Plans and implements engaging learning opportunities that include differentiated instruction and opportunities for application of skills Recognizes the special needs of students with learning challenges and makes appropriate accommodations as needed. Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration. Conducts, develops, and informs students of reasonable rules concerning classroom procedures and behavior, and maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment. Builds collaborative relationships with parents and students through regular communication and is available to students and parents for education-related purposes, e.g. open house, conferences, and extra-curricular activities. Effectively communicates with faculty, parents, and students to inform and guide programming through a team based approach. Administers medication according to school guidelines. Requirements: Education/License/Certification(s) and Experience Certified in LD, ED, Cross Categorical, or other areas of exceptional children Experience with co-teaching model Ability to work collaboratively on a team Embraces project-based learning Successful experience teaching small groups of students Ability to monitor student progress through data Working Conditions: Full time position 10-month contract Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8AM to 4PM with additional hours as needed.
