Description At the Saint Louis Science Center, our mission is to "inspire everyone to be curious and engaged in science." We seek to make science accessible through informal, interactive learning experiences. We are a team of educators, entertainers, and science enthusiasts, who work together to make the Saint Louis Science Center one of the top 10 in the country. The Special Exhibitions Representative is responsible for the delivery of high-quality guest experiences and safe operations in all Special Exhibitions venues, which include the Pulseworks simulators (Adventure Pod, Flight Simulators, and VR Transporter), as well as, our temporary traveling exhibitions (seasonal), and other venues as necessary. Team members of this role are responsible for guest safety, customer service, and education across all the Special Exhibition’s venues. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Safely/properly operate the Adventure Pod, Flight Simulators, and VR Transporter Train, inform, and ensure the safety of guests with the Adventure Pod, Flight Simulators, and VR Transporter. Maintain a friendly and professional atmosphere, with an emphasis on high-quality guest experiences. Cashiering: Conduct ticket transactions for all venues and provide suggestions based on age, demographics, and interests; share available promotions, combos, and specials. Conduct ticket sales for the Simulators based on safety guidelines and restrictions. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of each Special Exhibition, as well as general Science Center operations and procedures. Understand and interpret educational materials for the guests in all Special Exhibitions venues. Monitor guest behavior, enforcing basic safety, security, and emergency procedures. Respond promptly to all visitor questions, concerns, or complaints. Perform other duties as assigned. OTHER DUTIES: Ability to work with large groups, including school-age children. Ability to respond effectively and expediently to unforeseen circumstances, changes or emergencies, while dealing with large crowds Perform cash and credit card transactions in an accurate and efficient manner Must be available to work varied hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays Present a clean and professional appearance by adhering to the uniform policy EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED required. At least 2 years of College or Technical School education preferred. Coursework in the Sciences, Technology, Mechanics, or Museum Studies preferred. Retail, restaurant, or other customer service experience a plus. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: none PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to lift 20+ pounds. Must be able to stand and walk for a whole shift, possibly 8 hours. Simulator have short staircases that require regular bending, kneeling, or squatting through shift. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Venue with 4 large moving simulators, 12,000 sq. ft. exhibition hall, public museum setting.
