You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.   As a Speical Procedures Nurse, you will be responsible for providing nursing care that is goal-directed and adapted to the needs of an individual, a family and/or community during health and illness.  In this role under the direction of an Attending Physician or a licensed independent practitioner, RN provides technically complex and high risk nursing care services to patients which may include one or more of the following categories:  sedation, intravenous infusions, complex procedures, e.g., lumbar puncture, cardiac catherization; This may also include specialized monitoring during procedure and recovery phase; The RN may have Charge Nurse responsibility for his/her assigned unit. Involves a multidisciplinary team as needed to support patient and family psychological, social and spiritual needs. * Accurately completes required patient assessment, documentation, and interpretations for each patient encounter. Possesses sound professional judgment for timely physician intervention as needed. Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate actions, initiates appropriate life supporting interventions while communicating appropriately with physicians. * Maintains nursing equipment and work areas in proper working condition; reports malfunctioning equipment or housekeeping issues to the appropriate person. Maintains a neat and clean work area with equipment. Maintains adequate inventory control of all necessary supplies. Emergency equipment maintained with adequate availability, good working order and restocks as needed with a fiscal awareness and accountability. * Interfaces with customers, specifically patients, families, visitors, and UCMC staff in a professional, positive and accommodating manner; demonstrates knowledge of AIDET principles and employs in all situations; demonstrates flexibility in accommodating special needs of customers whenever possible. * Performs all required Quality Assurance testing as indicated or as required by UCMC * Rotates to clinical areas as directed to assist in safe staffing ratios; utilizes resources to safely transport sedated patients to an appropriate  or designated area within the UCMC   Required Qualifications * Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred. * Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program. * Current RN Illinois license * Graduate of an approved school of nursing   Preferred Qualifications * Leadership/Management experience in area of specialty * Experience working in a research environment. * 2 years of recent Critical Care * One additional certification in area specialty   REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS * Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the State of Illinois * Current BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS Certifications   Position Details * Job Type/FTE: 1.0 * Shift: Day, 8a - 4:30p * Unit/Department:  CCD 5th * CBA Code: NNU * Work Location - Hyde Park We’ve been at the forefront of medicine since 1899.
