ABOUT US

The Student Engagement Department is responsible for managing and supporting various student-centered programs and initiatives such as Central Orientation, Student Groups, and components of Orientation Homecoming. The role involves planning, coordinating, and implementing activities that enhance student engagement, promote student well-being, and foster a supportive campus environment, with a focus on creating a sense of belonging. The Special Projects Assistant will work closely with diverse student populations, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to ensure the success of various student affairs projects.

Education:

  • Must be a full time student at Western (enrolled in minimum 3.5 courses), and expect to retain full-time student status for the duration of this appointmen

Experience:

  • Preference to experience in Western’s Orientation Progra

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Written and verbal communication skills to express ideas clearly, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
  • Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
  • Ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
  • Ability to follow detailed and/or complex processes and practices with high attention to detail
  • Demonstrates integrity and works in accordance with Western¿s policies and procedures
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized work environment
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn and use new software programs as required
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public

Responsibilities

The Special Projects Assistant, Orientation will provide specialized support in the areas of administrative services, research services, infrastructure services, or student services. The incumbent will have responsibility for carrying out activities which require higher level specialization of skills. The incumbent will be responsible for providing support to staff, and for effectively carrying out a variety of tasks in accordance with policies, procedures, and instructions received from their supervisor. The incumbent will take guidance from their supervisor, and work productively and courteously with their work team and other members of the Western community.
