Description:

EDUCATION:

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Business, Computer Science, Engineering)
PMP designation (or similar project management accreditation)
Current and applied knowledge in project management methodology, e.g., PMBOK, systems development lifecycle frameworks and quality assurance, e.g., systems and user acceptance testing techniques.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 5 years of current and related experience with a broad working knowledge of information technologies that provides a credible framework for the preparation and monitoring of IT related projects.
Proven ability to oversee the overall development and implementation of large-scale IT projects, including leading project teams both in a physical and virtual team environment.

SKILLS:

Proven IT project management skills including: research, planning and organizational skills, budget preparation.
Knowledge and understanding of ERP, CRM, e-business, open source and custom applications.
Ability to identify and make recommendations for additional resources and take all steps to ensure that appropriate resource levels are maintained throughout the project life cycle.
Ability to work under pressure of high volume and expectation, while meeting multiple deadlines for multiple projects. Strong service orientation coupled with an ability to recognize and assess the operational significance of a problem, control/mitigate the risk and set priorities accordingly.
Exceptional analytical, evaluative and technical problem-solving skills. Excellent research, presentation and report writing skills.
Strong ability and willingness to work effectively as a team leader and team member. Must be able to collaborate and cooperate with team members, project sponsors, other stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, tact and diplomacy. Effective motivational and diplomatic skills appropriate to large and complex organizations.
Ability to effectively navigate a professional and political climate. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal calmly and effectively with people.
Excellent oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with a wide range of contacts and to write effective documents, proposals, and reports.
Advanced computer skills in Word and Excel and Project Management software application tools (MS Project, Wrike).
Ability and willingness to learn new systems, technologies and project management methods and tools.

The Special Projects Manager (SPM) is expected to provide guidance and coordination to several large-scale technology projects and to the School’s project to construct a new building. The SPM is expected to provide professional project management and analytical expertise in support of all phases of both projects, including oversight, coordination, implementation, execution, control and successful completion consistent with the organizational and business goals of the School of Continuing Studies.
