SUMMARY: The Special Projects Supervisor is responsible for supervising the Special Projects team within the Grounds Department. Reports to the Grounds Director. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned) * Supervise a team withthe removal of all large, unusual litter,cleaning and maintenance of shelters and event spaces, pressure washing of surfaces, Dog Parkroutine tasks, and other unspecified tasks for theoverall upkeep of the park. * Develops and executes a daily plan for the completion of all special projects and assigned duties, as well as ones that may arise throughout the workday. * Assistswith the removal of atypical trash and debris dumped in the park.Coordinate directly withtheGroundsManagerregardinglargewaste removal needs. * Coordinatescleaning and maintenance of all shelters, and event spaces ahead of rented events. * Oversees pressure washing ofareas, coordinating times, equipment, and procedures depending on what needstreatment. * Manages the maintenance of Dog Park, including pressure washing surfaces, cleaning hair out of the gutters, refilling dog poop bags, and any other routine tasks. * Assistswith the fixing, removal, and replacement of signage around the park. * Functions as the main point of contact for the grounds department on weekendswhen theGrounds Manageris notpresent, andreports any issuesimmediatelyto themanager. * Responsible for inventory andreportingofall specialprojectsequipment andsuppliesneedsto the Grounds manager for ordering. * Operates all equipment needed to efficiently perform special projectsduties. * Operates all grounds vehicles needed to efficiently remove trash, straighten signs, spread rocks, etc.onpark grounds, such as loaders, skid steers, and dump trailers. * Assistsand oversees the dailycleaning and maintenance of equipment and vehicles. * Ensuresdrains and catch basins are clean and free of debris, as needed and ahead of inclement weather. * Assistsother teams within the department with simple jobs such as treespotting for the Arborist, trench digging for the Irrigation Specialist, transportation of plants or materials for the Horticulture team, etc. * Assistsother teams outside the department with special tasks such as putting up lights for CITO or putting out barricades, etc. * Resolvesday-to-day questions or problemsregardingequipment,materials,methodsand proceduresrequiredto complete projects. * Establishes andmaintainseffective working relationships with all park staff,contractorsand the public. * Supports and actively promotes New Orleans City Park safety programs. * Investigates and responds towork orders andcustomer complaints promptly and tactfully. * Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. * Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques. * Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and in group situations. Supervisory responsibilities * In conjunction with the Grounds manager, conduct performance reviews for special projectsstaff. * Establishesteam membertasks and duties, ensuring proper time management. * Performsfollow-upfield inspections to ensure completion of team member tasks. * Schedules and prioritizesmanpowerand projects. * Assistswith budgeting,inventoryand scheduling of special projectsstaff. * Trains staffon all equipment and vehicles needed for the operation of special projects. * Issuesall safetyequipmentand toolstostaff, as needed. * Ensuresall equipment is clean and undamaged at the end of the day andproperly storedand put away. * Ensuresthat allteam membersadhere toallpark policies. Qualifications and education requirements * Active, unrestricted driver’s license * 2 years or more of work related togroundsmaintenance or custodial duties * Previoussupervisory experience preferred. Responsibilities
