We are currently seeking dedicated Special Support Assistants to join our team and provide exceptional support to our pupils aged 7 – 19 with moderate to severe learning difficulties, complex learning and behavioural needs, including autistic spectrum disorders and associated speech, language and communication difficulties.
THE ROLE – AS A SPECIAL SUPPORT ASSISTANT YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
Preparing the classroom environments before and after lessons, ensuring materials are organized and evaluated.
Use specialist knowledge to support students with speech, language, or autism difficulties, working closely with teachers in your curriculum area of expertise.
Independently manage larger groups of students, delivering learning programs devised by the teacher, and occasionally leading the group in the teacher’s absence.
Contribute to student assessments and data interpretation to inform future planning.
Extend the school day by working with target groups and delivering after-school activities as needed.
Help students with social integration strategies, seeking professional help when necessary.
Collaborate with teaching staff to prepare for lessons and design appropriate teaching resources.
Communicate issues of concern and positive feedback to teaching staff, liaising with teachers, therapists, and parents to share information.
Assist with basic administrative duties like photocopying, filing, and record keeping.
Provide practical help, such as feeding, toileting, and administering medication following appropriate training.
Supervise and positively engage students during non-teaching times, ensuring their health and safety.
