WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position is Laboratory Based; Kidlington, Oxford, UK. Travel may be very rarely required on an ad hoc basis.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • Completed IBMS Specialist Portfolio or Masters Degree
  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience in UKAS accredited Histology laboratories. Ideally with experience in specimen dissection (Proof of CPD and competency compliance)
  • Familiarity with and ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments that are commonly used within a histology laboratory.
  • Knowledge of quality control principles and the ability to implement and maintain quality control measures in the laboratory.
  • Experience in development and validation of laboratory procedures and equipment.
  • Proficiency in using computer software for data analysis, documentation, and laboratory information management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey complex scientific concepts to colleagues, healthcare providers, and non-specialists.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with colleagues, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot technical issues and anomalies in experimental or diagnostic results.

ROLE SUMMARY

  • As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist at Diagnexia, you will play a pivotal role in spearheading our fully digitised pathology laboratory, establishing yourself as a role model amongst the scientific team.
  • Your responsibilities will not only encompass the routine and specialist preparation of samples but will also delve into advanced techniques and methodologies, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and precision.
  • You will perform surgical sample preparations to enable the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of disease.
  • You will have a multi-section within the laboratory including (but not limited to) specimen reception, cut up, main laboratory, immunohistochemistry, special stains, QC and all other sections of the laboratory as required.
  • You will assist the Senior biomedical scientists / team leaders in both supervising and performing within sections of the department, providing advice on a range of technical issues and will contribute towards the training and supervision of support staff and less experienced biomedical scientists.
