Description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
A permanent post for a skilled Specialist Biomedical Scientist has become available within the Genetic Service. This new position has been funded to implement genetic testing across Scotland to inform appropriate medication for patients who have experienced ischaemic stroke. This new innovation is part of the wider application of pharmacogenomics to inform effective prescribing of common medicines.
The successful applicant will deliver a high-quality service as part of a dedicated team within the laboratory under the direction a Senior Clinical Scientist, to implement high-throughput CYP2C19 genetic testing in partnership with colleagues from the West of Scotland Regional Genetic Service and the NHS Scotland Centre for Sustainable Delivery.
The post holder will be responsible for managing the technical workload within the laboratory for this test as well as the analysis and interpretation of genetic results. In addition as an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist they will be responsible for authorising a defined set of laboratory reports. They must work closely with Senior Clinical Scientists within the laboratory to monitor the performance and effectiveness of the national CYP2C19 testing service. The successful applicant must be able to prioritise the workload of the team work and ensure that themselves and others work in a careful and meticulous manner at all times according to standard operating procedures. You will also be expected to contribute to quality assurance, UKAS accreditation and support the supervision and training of other staff. Working within a supportive and collaborative environment you will be encouraged to develop your skills and contribute to service improvement.
The Regional Genetic Service is a large friendly team of Technical, Scientific and Clinical staff who provide a first-class service to patients and families from Tayside and NE Fife and elsewhere in Scotland. The Service offers modern, well equipped facilities situated within Ninewells Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist to join a diagnostic Genetic Laboratory to deliver a new national testing service.
