Description
JOB OBJECTIVE: A Dangerous Goods Specialist ensures the safe handling, storage, and transportation of hazardous materials in compliance with IATA and ICAO regulatory standards. This role requires a high level of technical knowledge of international and national regulations, which may vary depending on the mode of transport (Air, Maritime, and Ground). MAIN ACTIVITIES YOU WILL PERFORM: Ensure that dangerous goods enter DHL safely for air transport. Responsible for inspecting dangerous goods to accept and/or reject a shipment using a checklist established by authorities. Enter all scheduled dangerous goods for flights into the RCTS system. Enter all dangerous goods detected with irregularities in the network into the RCIR system. Prepare the Notification to Captain (NOTOC) regarding dangerous goods on board the flight. Act as the main point of contact for customers and carriers regarding dangerous goods inquiries and requirements. Interpret and apply complex and constantly changing local, national, and international regulations on dangerous goods from authorities such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Act as DHL’s point of contact to detect and determine discrepancies and/or hidden dangerous goods in the network. Interact with various global dangerous goods departments to ensure all international dangerous goods shipments are managed according to standard import/export operating procedures and can be safely transported within the network. Supervise and ensure that all dangerous goods handling practices are carried out at the facilities in compliance with all safety standards. Coordinate with warehouse teams, carriers, and drivers to ensure proper segregation, storage, and handling of dangerous goods cargo. Notify OCC and Dispatch about ULD containers with dangerous goods and their accessibility status for boarding. Address and resolve issues with non-compliant shipments for air transport. Comply with established safety procedures during ramp operations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe equipment operation, and interaction with aircraft and materials. Maintain the Dangerous Goods area clean and organized. Keep updated records (documentation) of dangerous goods shipped on flights. Ensure that there are no goods with discrepancies, leaks, or anomalies in DHL facilities that could compromise the safety of employees and facilities. Act as the main point of contact in case of any goods damaged during handling within the warehouse or aircraft to identify and eliminate hidden dangerous goods in the network. KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Certifications: Valid and current DG Acceptance certification. Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of chemical properties, hazard classifications, and regulatory frameworks. Attention to Detail: Exceptional meticulousness is crucial for accurately preparing documentation, inspecting shipments, and avoiding errors and fines. Problem-Solving Ability: Ability to address complex regulatory compliance issues and find effective, compliant solutions. Organizational Skills: Strong ability to prioritize tasks, maintain accurate records, and efficiently manage shipment flow. POSITION PROFILE AND REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma. Must have physical ability to perform heavy work. Availability to work different shifts (day and night). Previous experience as Ramp Agent preferred. Basic English knowledge preferred. Computer skills required. Communication skills.
