Applications are invited for a new Specialist grade post based Victoria Infirmary, Northwich. The successful candidate will be a clinical expert in Dermatology.
The post holder will be a senior non-Consultant member of the Dermatology Service. Working autonomously, this Specialist grade doctor will take responsibility for the patients under their care and be able to manage a full range of presentations within the Service.
The successful candidate will undertake independent outpatient clinics, employing the necessary clinical decision skills to formulate appropriate management plans for the patients under their care. In addition, the appointee will perform subspecialty theatre sessions unsupervised.
Although working autonomously, the post holder will have the necessary understanding of their own limits and seek help when required. They will be responsible for adhering to the generic capabilities’ framework outlined nationally for the Specialist grade.
An autonomous practice framework will be agreed which will outline the defined level of competency for the post holder in relation to independent and autonomous practice. Expectation to have an individualised patient case load being the named responsible clinician, taking responsibility for all administrative and governance responsibilities relating to this caseload.
A Consultant mentor will be provided for support. The role will primarily focus on providing direct clinical care and meeting service delivery and improvement requirements. However, the role will be supported by the availability of suitable development opportunities for both service need and for the individual doctors.
Following assessment of their skills it is expected that the post-holder would work in both areas with more distant supervision, and autonomously in due course. The post-holder is expected to take account of any relevant protocols or guidelines issued within the sub-division when arriving at clinical decisions.
