Role – Specialist Fuel Technician
Location - Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, DN16 1XA
Grade - F
Pattern of Work – 36.5 hours per week, days

WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU

To be considered for this role, you must have a minimum of A-level education (or an equivalent qualification) with grades A-C. A strong working knowledge of IT systems and software packages is essential, and a valid driving licence is desirable.
Preferably, you will have experience working in a control room or a fast-paced manufacturing environment, both as part of a team and independently.
Additionally, you should be able to demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, possess a solid understanding of manufacturing principles, and adopt a proactive approach to safety.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you looking for a dynamic and vital role within a leading COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) site?
British Steel’s Scunthorpe Site operates a 24/7 internal gas distribution network, and we are seeking a Specialist Fuel Technician to manage the site’s gas balance. This involves optimising the use of Works Arising Gases and imported fuels to ensure the safe and efficient operation of key facilities, including the Rod Mill, Rail Mill, and Power Generation Assets.
Proactivity is key in this role. You will need to respond swiftly to process, engineering, quality, and safety issues as they arise, following established safe operating procedures and working closely with your team to implement corrective actions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Include but are not limited to;

  • Monitoring and operating the gas distribution plant, system, and site gas consumers.
  • Engaging with gas producers and customers to maintain clear and effective communication regarding network operations.
  • Supporting the Fuel Department in achieving its safety and operational KPIs.
  • Identifying and resolving operational challenges alongside engineering teams to ensure optimal performance and a safe working environment.
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues in the Fuel Department to maintain smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Conducting equipment monitoring, repairs, and purging activities on gas systems while driving continuous improvements. This includes maintaining procedures, supporting plant outages for maintenance work, and working with the team to oversee plant operations and implement necessary adjustments.
