Job Summary
To deliver and ensure statutory tax compliance within the Absa Group specifically relating to Indirect Taxes and provide tax advice where appropriate to internal stakeholders.
Job Description

Advisory:

  • Assist with the provision of VAT opinions and advice regarding to transactions and structures, in accordance with the required guidelines, to Absa Bank divisions and subsidiary companies within the Absa Group
  • Assess and provide Indirect Tax advice relating to new product approvals (NAPA Process)
  • Prepare VAT Ruling requests to SARS if required
  • Assist with external audit process and resolving audit issues raise

Compliance:

  • Manage a portfolio of Absa Group company VAT Returns using data obtained from the financial managers or responsible persons in that area as well as General Ledger reports including e-filing
  • Identify new opportunities for direct attribution within the Absa Group by analyzing system reports and variance analysis reports based on data from the General Ledger and other subsystems used
  • VAT Apportionment calculations for Group entities and also assist with Absa Bank Apportionment calculation
  • Manage SARS verification audits as well as external auditors requests

Training:

  • Provide training and tax presentations to the relevant business areas on the current tax legislation and updates on changes to the legislation
  • Innovation: Developing and delivering innovative tax planning ideas when required
  • Develop good working relationships with the tax teams within the group
  • Manage and develop relationships with the key business areas and the group
  • Manage and review tax systems, procedures and policies when necessary

VAT Risk Management:

  • Perform VAT reviews on Absa Bank divisions and Absa Group Companies. These reviews will include the verifying of the flagging and hard-coding of income and expenditure accounts, Material Group Codes, product systems and reviews on proper documentation as well as the correct VAT treatment through system interfaces and handling procedures
  • Reconciliation of VAT Accounts and documentation
  • Resolve any outstanding issues with the financial managers in the area under review and suggest corrective actions where required
  • Asist with the implementation of any corrective steps and actions that needs to be taken like system amendments or enhancements or changes to policies and procedures
  • Assist with external audit process, resolving findings and solutioning

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.Com (Hons) plus relevant Tax Qualification i.e. M.Com Tax, Advanced VAT Diploma or Higher Diploma Tax
  • 3 years relevant experience minimum in corporate or audit firm
  • Preferably Financial Services related experience

Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas: Financial Sciences (Required)
