An exciting opportunity has opened up with District Allied Health as a Specialist Intellectual Disability Clinician on a Permanent Part Time basis.
The successful incumbent will inform and guide health professionals on the delivery of care for people with intellectual disability, and their families and carers. The position will lead the development of appropriate clinical practice for patients/clients with intellectual disability and the families/carers in any hospital, service or site in NBMLHD.

Responsibilities:

  • Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional A: Registered nurse with a current license to practice from the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with minimum bachelor’s degree in nursing and postgraduate in a relevant specialty field with extensive experience working in a relevant specialty Occupational Therapist with current registration to practice with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia C: Speech Pathologist must hold a minimum a Bachelor’s or post graduate degree in speech pathology which provides eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia or D: Social Worker must hold a minimum a bachelor’s degree in social work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers or E: Senior Psychologist Accredited psychology tertiary qualifications and general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with a minimum of 9 years post qualifying experience
  • Advanced clinical practice skills/experience in intellectual disability or related area, including experience working in a relevant specialty and ability to provide an expert consultancy service for children, youth and adults with intellectual disability
  • Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in clinical practice and the provision of patient-centred services to people with an intellectual disability.
  • Ability to work within a capacity building framework with proven application of practice development frameworks to improve clinical practice
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across inpatient, outpatient and community settings, fostering cooperative partnerships to support inclusive health care delivery for people with intellectual disabilities
  • Demonstrated advanced communication and interpersonal skills across a variety of mediums including effective negotiation skills with a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to work autonomously with a broad scope, and to manage a demanding workload with competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse problems and apply a range of options when developing solutions to address identified clinical care needs for people with intellectual disability.
    Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.
