This is a hybrid position located in Columbus Ohio and you will be required to come into the office two days per week.
This role is responsible for the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial reporting for investment-related deliverables including GAAP and Statutory footnotes, internal investment balance sheet and income statement analysis, rating agency deliverables and board of director and audit committee deliverables.
Additional responsibilities of individual contributors on the within the broader Investments Reporting & Advisory team may include involvement in a transformational investment system project, performance of various portfolio wide risk-related analysis and activities, informal coaching and development of other associates, leading continuous improvement project opportunities to streamline processes, and performing other duties as assigned.
For this investment reporting & advisory specialist position, public accounting audit experience is preferred.

As a Specialist, you’ll plan, coordinate and perform complex investment accounting functions associated with advanced accounting. We’ll count on you to use advanced principles, techniques and procedures to acquire, assemble, evaluate, interpret, record and analyze financial data of all types and sources ultimately used to prepare of financial documents and/or reports for various regulatory and statutory authorities and for internal management of all levels.

TYPICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:

Education: Undergraduate studies in accounting, finance or business administration. Account major and degree preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: CPA studies desirable.
Experience: Six years of investment accounting experience preferably in the insurance or financial service industries and within a specific product/business area.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: GAAP knowledge and/or functional business area regulatory requirements. Complex financial statement preparation including consolidation of companies/subsidiaries. Principles of taxation and the related impact on financial statement preparation. Investment Accounting and/or business computer systems. Company organizational structure and products and services. Verbal and written communication skills for internal/external contacts. Ability to analyze, discover and solve investment accounting problems, to interpret financial documents and data and to analyze and interpret legal requirements. Project management skills. Ability to interpret changes in financial reporting and legal requirements that may impact financial statement preparation and to the formulation of company or business area policies and procedures. Ability to effectively operate a personal computer and related software using advanced techniques. Ability to apply investment accounting principles, theories, concepts and practices to specialized, unique and/or nonrecurring, complex problems.

Responsibilities
  • Performs a lead role in establishing and implementing new or revised investment accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and analyzes the most complex financial, and regulatory statements for the company(ies) and/or business areas assigned.
  • Maintains more complex investment accounting records as needed for the coordination, preparation and submission of the various required reports.
  • Develops and submits complex investment accounting and financial transactions required for proper reporting.
  • Ensures the completeness and accuracy of all reports, forms and data provided to internal and external clients/customers.
  • Recommends management actions or alternatives when the analysis of financial documents discloses unfavorable trends, situations or deviations.
  • Keeps informed of changes to GAAP regulatory requirements which ultimately impact the submission of statements, reports and other financial data.
  • Participates in the development and design of more complex new systems and processes.
  • Recommends changes to areas of responsibility that would enhance, improve or facilitate job performance, processing or workflow.
  • Owns the development and design of new and enhanced systems and processes within the assigned areas, under limited guidance.
  • Ensures preparation and analysis of the most complex pro forma financial data required for compliance with new requirements.
  • Assists management in applying financial data and analysis to the solution of administrative and operating problems.
  • Prepares state and supplemental reporting requirements as assigned and required.
  • Prepares complex financial information to provide to internal and external auditors, IRS, state examiners and other regulatory agencies, as assigned.
  • Prepares special reports and presentations as directed.
  • Serves in a group leader capacity to other investment accountants on selected projects.
    May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
