The Sakatti deposit is located in Finnish Lapland near the town of Sodankylä, and within the existing exploration permit areas fully owned by Anglo American Sakatti Mining Oy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Anglo American Plc. The Sakatti deposit is a unique, poly-metallic deposit that contains seven payable metals, including copper, nickel, cobalt, platinum, palladium, gold, and silver. The mine is targeted to produce two concentrates, high-grade copper and nickel concentrates but has optionality available to produce a bulk Cu-Ni concentrate.
Job Description
We are seeking a Mine Design Engineer to support the mine planning process during the PFS-B project phase, ensuring that all mine plans are technically feasible, economically viable, and compliant with safety and environmental standards. This role involves assisting in the development of long-term production plans, creating and maintaining 3D models using Deswik software, and contributing to the evaluation of material handling systems, mine infrastructure, and equipment. The successful candidate will prepare technical reports, support cost and schedule estimates, and collaborate across geotechnical, geological, and environmental disciplines. A strong commitment to safety and health is essential, with a focus on fostering a zero-harm culture and acting as a role model for workplace safety.

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honors degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline / Bachelor of Engineering from relevant field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Skills in Mine Planning software such as Deswik, Ventsim, PumpSim,
  • Good problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Applies effective risk management processes and procedures to mitigate mining-related risks.
  • Manage the strategic and long-term mine planning process to ensure accurate, high-quality mine plans.
  • Applies rigorous project management techniques to support the delivery of mining engineering outputs on time and within budget
Responsibilities
  • Promote a strong safety culture by applying health and safety principles and acting as a role model for zero harm.
  • Assist in mine planning and the development of production plans.
  • Prepare and update long-term mine plans.
  • Produce and maintain 3D models and designs using mine planning software (Deswik).
  • Participate in the selection and evaluation of solutions related to material handling, equipment, and mine infrastructure (mine ventilation, dewatering, backfill).
  • Support the preparation of cost and schedule estimates.
  • Prepare plans and technical reports for various stakeholders.
  • Assist in collaboration related to geotechnical, geological, and environmental planning.
