Specialist, Operating Room Entity: Aga Khan University Hospital Location: Karachi, Pakistan Introduction: The Department of Anaesthesia at the Aga Khan University Hospital provides perioperative care and other operating room facilities for all surgical procedures, intensive care to critically ill surgical patients in the surgical intensive care unit, as well as acute and chronic pain management services. Our department has a mix of anesthesiologists, qualified nurses, and highly trained surgical and anesthesia technicians. Responsibilities: You will be responsible for: Supervising Operating Room technicians and ensuring compliance with established protocols Managing OR setup, turnover times, and readiness of equipment and instruments Liaising effectively with surgical, anesthesia, nursing, and support teams Conducting spot checks on key OR documentation, including turnaround time, time-out procedures, and sponge counts Ensuring optimal technical staff assignment and workflow management Acting as a clinical expert in intraoperative care, supporting evidence-based practices and troubleshooting intraoperative issues Monitoring equipment, surgical supplies, and inventory in collaboration with Materials Management Collaborating with Head Nurses, Assistant Manager, Clinical Services, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Clinical Nurse Instructors to identify training needs for OR, SDC, and CSSD technicians Mentoring, supervising, and evaluating Operating Room staff Conducting specialty-based courses and in-house training programs in coordination with Clinical Nurse Instructors and Clinical Nurse Specialists Requirements: You should have: Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in the related area at least 5 years of related experience preferably in an Operating Room good interpersonal skills and communication skills, including spoken and written English good management and organizational skills excellent knowledge of basic software/programs ability to handle multiple tasks and perform under pressure.
