Join our busy paving team as a Mill Operator in Palmerston North. As a Specialist Mill Operator, you will operate state-of-the-art milling machinery to efficiently remove and prepare road surfaces for repairs and resurfacing. This role involves assisting with all aspects of site preparation. You’ll be responsible for loading, unloading, and handling milled materials safely, conducting routine machinery checks, and performing maintenance and minor repairs as needed. Collaboration with paving and surfacing team members is key, as together you’ll deliver high quality outcomes on every project. In addition to the above you will: Support the paving team with day to day operations. Perform equipment maintenance to ensure optimal machine function and longevity. Work closely with your crew to ensure each job is completed efficiently and to a high standard. Record working hours accurately for invoicing. We’re looking for someone with: Full Class 2 licence – Class 4 preferred Wheels, Tracks, Rollers. Demonstrated experience and competency skills with operating milling machines. Additional experience and skills operating asphalt pavers, rollers, or similar surfacing and road construction equipment Strong knowledge of preparing, laying, and finishing asphalt. Committed to safety, with a proven track record working on active construction sites and live traffic environments Skilled at maintaining and troubleshooting rotomills, skid steers and paving equipment A reliable team player with solid communication skills Good level of physical fitness as the job often involves manual handling, standing for long periods, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. Capable of identifying operational issues and addressing them promptly to maintain project flow.
