Job Summary:
To create and maintain a culture of patient safety within Mary Washington Healthcare. This individual will support the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the community, and co-workers.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Act as a facilitator and change agent towards building a culture of patient safety.
- Educate staff on National Patient Safety Goals, monitor compliance of these goals, and work with departments to ensure compliance.
- Engage clinical and non-clinical staff in strategies to improve patient safety:
- Educate new staff on patient safety during orientation, conduct regular patient safety walk-rounds, conduct annual patient safety surveys, and give feedback on opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in failure modes-effects analysis, develop error-reduction strategies and provide information on sentinel-event alerts.
- Disseminate patient safety best practices within the Mary Washington Healthcare.
- Demonstrate a passion for process improvement, efficiency, and health care quality.
- Practice LEAN methodologies to mitigate waste in the health system and improve patient safety initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Knowledge of Performance Improvement principles and methodologies.
- Recent clinical or medical experience preferred.
- Ability to establish collaborative relationships with health care providers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and internet required.
- Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to problem-solve effectively.
- Organized and self-motivated.
