Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for the role of Specialist Pharmacist in Gastroenterology at NBT. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and forward-thinking individual to join our team. The gastroenterology team provides a friendly, stimulating and rewarding environment for pharmacists to develop their clinical skills and develop the service we provide to our patients. Pharmacists are valued members of the multi professional team, playing a key role in delivering a high-quality service for our patients.

The successful applicant will work closely with the lead gastroenterology pharmacist to provide clinical pharmacy services to the gastroenterology specialty. This will involve working closely with the gastroenterology team, providing specialist advice, and ensuring safe and timely supply of medications to inpatients and outpatients. The specialist gastroenterology pharmacists are key members of the multi professional team, attending weekly MPT meetings as well as contributing towards teaching, guideline development and clinical audit/ quality improvement projects.
The gastroenterology speciality at NBT includes a 20 bedded inpatient ward managing a range of gastroenterology conditions include chronic and acute liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeds and eating disorder patients. NBT has a medical day care unit providing treatments to patients with gastrointestinal conditions as outpatients. The specialist gastroenterology pharmacist will care for patients with a range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions, working within the liver unit which is an accredited IQILS site (Improving Quality in Liver Services).
The successful candidate must have completed (or be undertaking) a postgraduate clinical pharmacy diploma and be committed to continuing professional development. Previous experience working within gastroenterology, or working as an independent prescriber, would be advantageous.

In conjunction with the lead gastroenterology pharmacist provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to the gastroenterology team, including inpatients and outpatients.
Advise on strategies to ensure cost-effective use of resources, particularly around the use of high-cost drugs in the gastroenterology speciality.
Provide advice and information to patients/ carers to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines and promote compliance to treatment.
Participate and lead on clinical audit and quality improvement projects in the gastroenterology speciality.
Manage on-going pharmaceutical care of patients being maintained on drug treatment for gastroenterology conditions, including managing the homecare supply of many high-cost medicines.
Practice as an independent prescriber to support the gastroenterology service in inpatient and outpatient settings where appropriate.
Provide pharmaceutical expertise to any multi professional working groups considering protocols, policies and guidelines in the specialist area and attend weekly multi professional team meetings.
Provide risk management support to the management of gastroenterology patients treated at NBT – including correct drug selection and managing supply shortages.
Contribute to the training of pharmacy undergraduates, medical students, trainee pharmacists, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, medical, and nursing colleagues as appropriate. Train clinical pharmacy diploma students on aspects of specialist area.
To support formulary pharmacist for new drug requests and shared care protocols for gastroenterology drugs.
To support the pharmacoeconomics team with horizon scanning and the implementation of newly commissioned treatments and pathways; as well as switches to cost-effective biosimilars
