YOUR OPPORTUNITY

One Permanent Full Time Position.
Capital Power is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Specialist, Property Tax to join our Treasury team and Risk Management Team. Reporting to the Sr. Specialist ERM, Insurance and Property Tax , your primary responsibilities will involve acting as the subject matter expert for property tax compliance across our Canadian and U.S. assets. You will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and analyzing property tax assessments and payments, researching complex tax issues, and identifying opportunities to optimize our tax position. The successful candidate will also contribute to financial planning and business development projects where property taxes play a role, while maintaining strong relationships with assessors, municipal representatives, and internal stakeholders.
The candidate will also support our Insurance program including with renewal coordination, certificate tracking, claims management, due diligence and risk management data analysis.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with foundational experience in property tax who is looking to grow within a dynamic and collaborative energy company.

EDUCATION:

  • Degree or Diploma in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
  • Certified Member of the Institute (CMI) Property Tax Certification or actively working toward certification.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of property tax experience in a professional services or industry tax role.
  • Prior exposure to complex tax compliance, research, and financial planning.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (Oracle subledger an asset).

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Advanced Excel skills: familiarity with reporting tools (Power BI, etc.) is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative team player who builds effective relationships across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • High aptitude for knowledge seeking and learning new skills.
