Description
Specialist, Service Provider (Functional Skills) Description: In this role, you will deliver engaging Functional Skills English training to Army apprentices, helping them develop the core communication skills needed to succeed in their careers and technical training. This role aligns to industry-level titles such as Functional Skills Tutor, English Skills Trainer, Adult Skills Tutor, or Employability Skills Instructor.   The Role At Pearson TQ, we help learners build the skills that shape careers and strengthen industries. As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will support Army apprentices in developing essential English skills that underpin their professional development and future progression. You’ll wake up excited to help learners grow in confidence — delivering engaging lessons, supporting individuals to overcome learning barriers, and seeing apprentices achieve qualifications that open doors for their future. In your first six months, you’ll make the biggest impact by building strong relationships with learners, delivering high-quality English Functional Skills training, and supporting apprentices to progress successfully through their qualifications. What makes this opportunity different is the variety and purpose behind the role. As a peripatetic tutor, you’ll deliver intensive Functional Skills courses at Gibraltar Barracks (Minley), Worthy Down Barracks (Winchester), and other Pearson TQ sites, while also supporting learners through remote and face-to-face coaching throughout their apprenticeship journey.   What You’ll Own Success in this role is measured through learner engagement, progress, and achievement. Your key priorities will be: * Delivering high-quality Functional Skills English training at Levels 1 and 2 through engaging classroom and course-based delivery. * Supporting apprentices through their learning journey with effective target setting, coaching, and ongoing support. * Maintaining high standards of learner documentation, e-portfolio evidence, and quality assurance aligned with awarding body requirements. You will influence learner success by creating contextualised learning experiences that connect English skills directly to real workplace scenarios.   About You You bring strong teaching expertise in Functional Skills English and a passion for helping learners achieve their potential. You bring experience delivering Functional Skills English up to Level 2, and you’re someone who motivates learners, adapts your teaching approach, and builds confidence in individuals who may have previously struggled with education. Whether delivering an intensive course, supporting learners remotely, or helping apprentices develop confidence in communication, you thrive in environments where your teaching has a direct impact on learner success. You likely have: * A recognised teaching qualification (PTLLS, CTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE, DTLLS or equivalent). * A minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics. * Experience delivering Functional Skills English up to Level 2. * Experience supporting learners through both face-to-face and remote delivery. * Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills. You are flexible, adaptable, enthusiastic, and comfortable working across multiple locations as part of a peripatetic role.   What You’ll Get This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of learners while working in a supportive and mission-led environment. At Pearson TQ, you’ll: * Help Army apprentices build essential communication skills that support their careers. * Be part of an organisation committed to transforming lives through learning. * Access professional development opportunities to enhance your teaching practice. Pearson offers a competitive benefits package including: * 25 days annual leave plus an additional day per year of service (up to 30 days) * Aviva pension scheme * Life, private medical and dental insurance options * Stock/share purchase options * Family-friendly leave policies and flexible working options * Employee wellbeing programme * Cycle to work scheme * Volunteering days * Retail and leisure discounts   Ready to Make an Impact?
