Doctors Direct have an exciting opportunity for a Speciality Doctor to work to work with us at one of the trusts at Harlow, Essex in Ophthalmology, Glaucoma.
Working with other members of the team, ensure the provision and delivery of a first class Ophthalmology service to our patients. The post holder will be given the opportunity to enhance and develop their ophthalmology skills that fit with the needs of the department. The post holder will be responsible to the Lead Consultant for the service in which they are working at any given time. They will also be expected to attended clinics at our sister hospitals Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire and St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping, Essex.

Responsibilities

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE TO:

  • The Specialty Doctor shall be responsible for the admission of ophthalmic emergency cases and for the notification of his/her Consultant. He/she will also be required to manage referrals from other hospitals as required.
  • The Specialty Doctor shall accompany his/her Consultant on ward rounds and to outpatient clinics according to the work schedule agreed at the time of appointment. This work schedule may change to accommodate the future needs of the service.
  • The Specialty Doctor shall be subject to the general rules for Specialty Doctor posts and shall obey such information as the Trust shall, from time to time, issue through the Clinical Policy Board, Medical Staff Committee or monthly Directorate meeting.
  • He/she will not take leave when more than one of his/her colleagues are on leave without sufficient cover being available by other team members. When leave is taken the Specialty Doctor is responsible for ensuring that no outpatient bookings are made for them in any of their regular clinics unless full cover is being provided by a colleague cover. He/she will give six weeks’ notice in writing to Head and Neck Directorate office of any proposed annual leave.
  • The Specialty Doctor accepts that he/she will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant, or his representative; in consultation where practicable with his/her colleagues, both senior and junior. It has been agreed between the professions and the Department that while juniors accept that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptional and in particular that juniors should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
