Doctors Direct have an exciting opportunity for a Speciality Doctor in Old age Psychiatry to work with us at our South London & Maudsley NHS trust

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE TO:

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including history-taking, Mental State Examination (MSE), and cognitive testing.
• Diagnose and manage a range of psychiatric conditions in older adults, including:
• Dementia (Alzheimer’s disease, vascular, Lewy body, frontotemporal dementia, etc.)
• Late-onset depression and anxiety disorders
• Psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, delusional disorder, late-onset bipolar disorder)
• Neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia (agitation, aggression, hallucinations, delusions)
• Formulate and implement individualised treatment plans, including medication management and psychosocial interventions.
• Provide input to Memory Assessment Services (MAS) for dementia diagnosis and management.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, liaising with nurses, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and carers.
• Conduct ward rounds and outpatient clinics under consultant supervision.
• Assess risk of self-harm, suicide, neglect, or harm to others, ensuring appropriate interventions.
• Work with safeguarding teams to protect vulnerable older adults.
• Apply the Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA) appropriately.
